Can I paint outside during hot weather?

The Great British Summer is finally here! So temperatures have climbed and winds have dropped. The countryside is in full bloom and everybody wants to be outside enjoying it.

For those considering exterior decorating or maintenance projects, this is the time to get started. Importantly, most external paints and coatings require dry conditions along with an application temperature of 10c or above, throughout both the application and the drying process for optimum performance. Realistically therefore, the window of opportunity for external decorating runs from June, through until October if we’re lucky! So now is just the right time for attempting those larger external painting projects: outdoor swimming pools, pool halls, pool enclosures and pool houses, ponds, fountains and water features, roofs, walls, windows, doors, barns, outdoor sports courts, humble houses or even castles and dream-like windmills. As the Army says, “If it stands still, paint it!”

You should start the process by identifying the substrate (surface) to be painted, its general condition and what you want the end-result to look like (such as colour, texture and sheen).
