Summer Is Here - Time To Paint Smart!

Summer Painting Advice | Exterior Paint Tips for Hot Weather | Technical Paint ServicesAs the seasons change, it is important that you are aware of the optimum weather and temperature conditions for maximising your painting opportunities.

SUMMER IS HERE - TIME TO PAINT SMART!
At last, summer has arrived - and with it, warmer days, longer evenings, and the perfect opportunity to tackle those big exterior painting projects you’ve been putting off. Whether you’re looking to freshen up your swimming pool, repaint a roof, or give your industrial units or agricultural buildings a long-overdue makeover, now’s the time to get the brushes out.

Make the Most of the Weather - But Be Paint-Savvy.
Summer offers excellent conditions for exterior painting - but it’s not without its challenges. While the warmer temperatures help surfaces dry out after a long, damp spring, high heat can also cause paints to dry too quickly. This can lead to issues like mud cracking, where the top layer dries before the layers beneath, causing an uneven, flaky finish.

To avoid this, follow these best practices:

  • Paint early in the day or in the evening to avoid strong, direct sunlight.
  • Work in shaded areas wherever possible, especially when painting metal or tarmac.
  • Avoid over-thinning your paint - heat naturally makes coatings less viscous, so they may set too quickly if further diluted.
  • Follow curing times carefully - “touch dry” does not mean the surface is ready for a second coat.

Summer conditions help dry out damp masonry, concrete, and metal, giving you a better base for long-lasting adhesion and a smooth, even finish.

Choosing the Right Paint for the Job.
In communal areas or high-use environments, low-odour, water-based paints are often the best choice. We offer an extensive range of both water-based and solvent-based coatings tailored for every surface and situation.

If you're battling solar gain from glass, metal, or asphalt roofing, we highly recommend our solar reflective and anti-glare coatings, available in both water-based and spirit-based formulations. These help to reflect heat and UV radiation, keeping buildings cooler and improving energy efficiency.
