It's a great time to get outside and paint!

IT’S SUMMER, IT’S HOT...and it’s finally here!!! Get outside and grab your paintbrush! When painting externally, beware of heavy thunder storms washing away your newly-applied paint, particularly water-based types. It is however, the ideal time to undertake those larger external jobs such as walls, roofs, industrial plant and farm buildings; it’s a great time to dry out any damp surfaces before painting.

As the seasons change, it is important that you are aware of the optimum weather and temperature conditions for maximising your painting opportunities. Summer is upon us and what a great time for those projects such as painting swimming pools, pool houses, ponds, tennis courts and roofs. Get painting!

In the current heat all paints will dry faster...some will dry too fast so beware. Avoid painting in strong, direct sunlight, particularly on to hot metal or tarmac surfaces. You should start in the early morning, possibly in the evening and ideally in the shade. This should help to avoid ‘mud cracking’, where the surface dries too fast and the paint beneath not at all, thus resembling dried mud! When applying, don’t over thin as the paint is already thinner when warm and will set too quickly, losing its “wet edge” prematurely.

If using paints in communal situations or areas of high use, remember water-based coatings don’t smell as much as solvent types. We do however have a comprehensive range of both.

Always allow each coat to fully cure as per the Technical Data Sheet instructions…”touch dry” is NOT fully cured or recoatable.

With over 75 years of experience and a few hot summers behind us, we can advise you fully, along with a specification and application advice…just ask.

Whatever the surface or job in mind, we offer a comprehensive range of coatings: from ROOFS to FLOORS,WALLS or PLANT and SILOs, TENNIS COURTS and MUGAs.

Please contact our Technical Team for advice and product suitability. CALL 01202 295570.

If you are suffering with “Solar Gain” (greenhouse effect) from a glass, asphalt or metal roof, see our Solar Reflective and Anti-glare water based or solvent based products. Now is a great time to give your ROOF some protection.

Once you have established the ideal end-result for your project, refer to our Substrate Index for product options and take a few invaluable moments to read our Painting Guides - see below.
